Protagonist in an attempt to defraud the Permanent Representation of Great Britain to the United Nations brought the Fyromacedonian Srgjan Kerim , the former chairman of the UN General Assembly.
Six weeks after completion of his term of office, became known case, that would sound funny if not entirely related to the validity of the position of President of the General Assembly. Under what became known a year ago, on 9 November 2007, shortly after taking office, Mr. Kerim wrote to Sir John Sawers, Britain's permanent representative at the United Nations.
He recalled that Britain had offered to help finance the operation of the presidency, offering 40,000 U.S. dollars for the first half, from September 2007 until February 2008 and a similar number for the second half. So stated in the letter that the money will be paid the work of Mr Robert Pollock as Special Advisor and author talks. A few days later, on November 28, the British Permanent Representative responded positively to the request and sent Kerim check.
However, two details of the letter caused Kerim review of the request. Specifically, calling the money be paid into a personal account or, if it was a check, be issued in his name. Moreover, as a contact address, not give the address of the Office of the General Assembly, but the hotel's address in which he lived (!)
After a little research on the basis of the suspicions that led to these two items, the British Permanent Representation found that indeed something was wrong. Specifically, Mr. Robert Pollock, for which Mr. Kerim called the money was not a volunteer, but normally paid employee of the United Nations. Sir Sawers wrote a letter to the new Kerim, which stated this fact. «You understand that, based on these data, it should ask you to return the check as soon as possible», concluded the letter, dated December 5 2007. Just the next day, the check was returned.
The disclosure of the case together with rumours for the hotel he was residing Mr. Kerim, according to which the bill was paid by a public relations company.
