Τι είναι "αυνάνες", μπαμπά;

Aυνάνες παιδί μου, είναι αυτοί, που όταν ένας Έλληνας πει για την Ελλάδα: "το σπουδαίο έθνος μας" ή πει για ένα φίλο του Έλληνα "είναι σπουδαίος πατριώτης", τον ονομάζουν "εθνικιστή", ενώ αν τα λέει κάποιος Αμερικάνος, τον ονομάζουν "σύμμαχο".

SECRETARY RICE: Good morning.......I want to note that Senator McCain was gracious. He’s a great patriot. I want to note that President-elect Obama was inspirational, and I’m certain he will continue to be. ......But one of the great things about representing this country is it continues to surprise; it continues to renew itself; it continues to beat all odds and expectations. You just know that Americans are not going to be satisfied until they really do form that perfect union. And while the perfect union may never be in sight, we just keeping working at it and trying.

Also, I've always admired the talented men and women who serve in the State Department and I look forward to joining them now. Again, Madame Secretary, thank you for the honor to serve you, the Administration and our great nation in this cause. Thank you. (Applause.)
