our reply to "Expensive friend"

Our reply:

Dear WALTER WULLENWEBER,

you are probably right for most things that you have listed in your article.

Yes we have "cooked the books" and yes we have burnt down our forests. Yes we are lazy and we are getting pension in the early fifties and yes our doctors do not declare their full income.

If I were a German, I would probably rebel as well as to why do I have to pay the fuck-ups of others (Greeks in this case).

And we, (the people), feel responsible for electing "in office" incompetent officials and thieves.

But dear WALTER,

The strike (yesterday 24/02/2010) you are referring to, is our way of demonstrating why, we (the people), have to pay for the stolen public money (part of the 100 billion Europe has given us, as you have mentioned).

How was the money stolen from the public? It is very simple. Our crooked politicians were bribed by Siemens who overturned and "incorporated" the additional "cost" in the PUBLIC Greek Project (OSE GSMR, OTE, etc).

This way, Siemens was able to kick out other competitors, (LME, Nokia, Nortel), win projects and keep German workers employed, therefore low German unemployment rates... Right?

and really, dear WALTER,

Isn't the German State that supports Siemens? - do not rush to say no and deny it, I'm fully aware of the way Siemens operates and how Germany supports this company worldwide.

And isn't Siemens heavily involved in the scandals in Greece?

Isn't Germany that hid Christoforakos (and, therefore, part of the theft of Greek public monies that took place here in Greece)?

And finally, if the average German thinks as ... stated in the recent publication of the magazine "Der Focus" well ... need I say more?

See, dear WALTER, things are not exactly as you have presented them in your article. And the "nice aunt" is not all that innocent of the "Greek issue". Things are a bit more complex.

You can emailto me your comments, or you can reply in this article/commentary.

Kind Regards, aris53m

Dear Greeks,

You probably remember her – that aunt who used to fill your piggy bank when you were a child – putting a little bit on the side for your first bicycle or your first vacation.
And all she wanted in return was the occasional thank you.

Dear friends, this is a letter from that aunt. Don’t worry, she is not seeking thanks. She just wants you to put yourself in her shoes for a moment.
Since 1981, we have belonged to the same family within the European Union. In all this time, no other family member has put so much cash in the common savings box as we have – around 200 billion euros to be exact. And no other family member has received as much as you have – nearly 100 billion euros. That is nearly half the cash we have thrown into the EU pot. Put differently: over the years, we Germans have given some 9,000 euros for each of you Greeks. Just like that. It was kind of nice of us, don’t you think?
