EU and European Central Bank confirmed earlier Friday that debt-laden Greece had formally applied for assistance.
The EU member countries have pledged to offer EUR30 billion in loans to the country this year along with a smaller amount from the IMF. The funds will be dispersed only after the leaders of all 16 countries that use the euro agree to it.
