Με τον Έλληνα πρέσβη Αδαμάντιο Βασιλάκη συναντήθηκε το πρωί στη Θεσσαλονίκη ο Μάθιου Νίμιτς. "Το μόνο θέμα που συζητάμε είναι αυτό της ονομασίας που είναι σημαντικό και πολύπλοκο. Υπάρχει κινητικότητα και σε αυτό θα μείνουμε" δήλωσε ο μεσολαβητής του ΟΗΕ αμέσως μετά τη συνάντηση. Χθες, στα Σκόπια, όπου είχε χωριστές συναντήσεις με τον πρόεδρο και τον πρωθυπουργό της ΠΓΔΜ, Μπράνκο Τσερβένκοφσκι και Νίκολα Γκρούεφσκι, διαπίστωσε, όπως είπε, ενιαία θέση της σκοπιανής ηγεσίας στο ζήτημα της ονομασίας. Ο κ. Νίμιτς αρνήθηκε πάντως να επιβεβαιώσει ή να διαψεύσει αν πρότεινε για συζήτηση το όνομα "Βόρεια Μακεδονία", σε διάφορες εκδοχές του. Συνεργασία με τον Πρωθυπουργό έχει αυτήν την ώρα η υπουργός Εξωτερικών Ντόρα Μπακογιάννη, η οποία θα τον ενημερώσει και για τις εξελίξεις στο θέμα της ΠΓΔΜ.

When asked whether other issues were discussed in addition to the name, the mediator noted that several issues were raised, "which are less important than the main one - that of the name."
- Those peripheral issues are not the basis of the problem. The name issue is difficult as it is, therefore there's no need to burden it with other issues. I suggest we leave them aside, focus on the name and try to find a solution, stated Nimetz, reiterating there was no timetable for name settlement and that it could and should be resolved.
The mediator failed to say whether he would hold high-ranking meetings during his stay there.
Greek negotiator Vassilakis said he was optimistic and unless both sides showed constructiveness, a solution to the problem could be found.
- It's necessary to be patient, he said, adding the Athens-Skopje name talks were progressing with slow tempo. Asked whether Greece would also veto Macedonia's EU membership, Vassilakis referred to Costas Karamanlis' statement regarding the matter. - Look up what he has said and you'll find the answer to the question, stressed Vassilakis.
