Thank you for your comments. Various official organs have decided to use the UN-recognised long form of the country's name, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, to satisfy Greek demands. However, the BBC is not bound by these decisions and feels it is appropriate, for the sake of clarity and brevity, to refer to the country simply as Macedonia. Indeed, in most cases we use the short form of country names. For example we refer to Germany rather than the Federal Republic of Germany, Libya rather than the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya and Greece rather than the Hellenic Republic. You will note that we are not alone in using the name Macedonia. Other publications, such as the Times Atlas, give prominence to the short form of the country's name. Regards

Thank you for your reply. I would like just to inform you that the name "macedonia" is more than a name, it is a historical entity which cannot be given to a country with no historically proven relation with this entity. So, it is not simply a matter of "greek demands". I understand your point about the use of this name by publications, like Time Atlas, however other applications such as the Oxford Dictionary or, as you correctly mentioned, UN and EU publications use the term FYROM. Of course, you are not obliged by anyone to use the UN acknowledged name, but your chosen name not only doesn't help "clarity and brevity", but also reinforce confusion and history forgery. If your desire is to assist the attempt of some people to deceit using world history, I respect your choice, but I was expecting a more responsible stance from the historic BBC, the media I connected with the resistance to Nazi propaganda. I 'm deeply disappointed you are nowadays participating to this misinformation campaign. With regards
