Να το απόρρητο Ελληνο-αμερικανικό σχέδιο για την επίλυση του θέματος του ονόματος της FYROM

Skopje, August 27 (MIA) - Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski told journalists Wednesday that he was not familiar with an alleged US plan for settling the name dispute, which according to some media, US State Secretary Condoleezza Rice should present to Macedonian, Greek Foreign Ministers on September 23 in New York, ahead of the UN General Assembly session.
Gruevski refused to comment hypothetical developments, i.e. what would Macedonian Government do if US urged for settling the dispute by September and imposed the name Northern Macedonia.
- I cannot comment hypothesis. If there is a certain favorable solution, it will be a subject of citizens' vote, Gruevski said, reaffirming his stand that the citizens of Macedonia should decide on the name issue resolution.
He denied the claims that UN mediator Matthew Nimetz would quit his position if the name dispute remained unsettled by this October.
- I haven't heard such announcement, he has not told us anything in this regard. On the contrary Nimetz is rather enthusiastic, willing to resolve the problems, Gruevski told reporters during his visit of Skopje City Stadium.
For Gruevski the statement of US outgoing Ambassador Gillian Milovanovic that Macedonia had no future if it failed to join NATO was her personal stand.
- We agree that it would be much better for Macedonia to join the European Union and NATO, and have been doing our best to achieve that goal. The name is the one and only problem. We (Macedonia) have met NATO membership criteria and by September it will also be the case with the eight benchmarks for accessing the EU. So, there will be no other political, economic criteria, except the name issue. Greece demands from us to change the name of our country and our Constitution, Gruevski said.
He also referred to the accusations of President Branko Crvenkovski, presented in yesterday's interview with Alfa TV. Crvenkovski said a poor strategy should be blamed for the unresolved name row.
- I am guilty for everything. I am probably guilty because the name row has not been resolved for the last 15 years, as well as for the failure of all former Macedonian, Greek government to settle the matter, Gruevski said.
Crvenkovski's accusations are illogical, Gruevski said, as he has been in power (as PM or President) for 15 years, a period in which he could have but failed to resolve the name row, and now blames the others.
His mandate expires in seven-eight months, offering him a chance to resolve the problem, Gruevski said.
- If we are not able to resolve the matter and he is, let him come forward and present a concrete proposal in the next negotiating round. Let him say this is the proposal, and if it is good, we shall support it. Thus far, we have not heard a concrete proposal that he, but also Greece, would support, Gruevski said.
He should not voice criticism about the name issue, as he has been engaged in its resolving since 1991, the Prime Minister said.
- For the whole period, he has been claiming that we are on the right track, that time is works for us. After the US recognition of Macedonia's constitutional name, he and a group of so-called experts were saying that all other countries would follow the suit. Now the same experts and he say that we need a new strategy, that we are not on the right track and should make some changes. Instead of criticizing, he should present his concrete plan, Gruevski said
